Developing a Group Counseling Model with Modern Stick Puppet Media for Vocabulary Mastery in Slow Learner Students
Main Article Content
Abstract
This study aims to determine the vocabulary learning conditions of slow learners and the needs of teachers and students for learning models that can improve students' vocabulary mastery, describe the development of a group counseling model with modern stick puppet media, and test its effectiveness. This study is development research. The exploratory study employs a qualitative descriptive research approach. Prototype development is carried out through FGD, try out. The effectiveness testing of the model was conducted through experiments with a quasi-experimental design model, a non-equivalent before-after design. The cluster random sampling technique identified 4 elementary schools as the experimental group and 6 elementary schools as the control group. A validity and reliability-tested vocabulary test served as the data collection instrument, and a two-mean difference test served as the data analysis technique. The study's results show that slow learners' vocabulary learning has not progressed as expected, with their vocabulary mastery lagging behind that of regular students. Based on the findings of the exploratory study, a group counseling model that uses modern stick puppet media to teach language was created. According to the results of the model effectiveness test, group counseling using modern stick puppet media helps slow learners improve their vocabulary mastery.
